Statistics Calculator

Statistics Calculator

Enter numbers separated by commas. Example: 12, 15, 18, 20, 25

What is a statistics calculator?

A statistics calculator summarises a set of numbers for you: the mean (average), median (middle value), mode (most common value) and range (spread). Enter your numbers separated by commas and it works out all four at once.

How to use the statistics calculator

Type your numbers into the box, separated by commas — for example, 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 — then click Calculate. The calculator shows the mean, median, mode and range, plus the count, sum and sorted list.

Formulas

Mean = sum of all values ÷ count. Median = the middle value when the numbers are sorted (or the average of the two middle values). Mode = the value that appears most often. Range = largest value − smallest value.

Example

For 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42: the sum is 108 and the count is 6, so the mean is 18. Sorted, the two middle values are 15 and 16, so the median is 15.5. There is no mode, and the range is 42 − 4 = 38.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the mean of 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42?

The mean is 18. Add them up (108) and divide by 6.

What is the median of 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42?

The median is 15.5 — the average of the two middle values, 15 and 16.

What is the difference between mean and median?

The mean is the average of all values; the median is the middle value when the numbers are sorted. The median is less affected by very large or very small values.
