Welcome to the CalcSolver Guide. This page explains how to use the free scientific calculator on the home page, how to use the 52 calculators, and how to get the most out of CalcSolver for homework and revision.
How to use the scientific calculator
The scientific calculator on the home page works like a pocket scientific calculator. Tap the number buttons and operators to build up a sum, then tap = to get the answer. The display shows what you have typed and the result.
Buttons
The number keys 0–9 and the decimal point enter numbers. The operators + − × ÷ do the four basic operations. The function keys give you sin, cos, tan, log, ln, square root, powers, factorials and fractions. AC clears everything, and DEL deletes the last character.
DEG and RAD
The DEG/RAD button switches between degrees and radians for the trigonometric functions. School work almost always uses degrees: sin(30°) = 0.5. Radians are used in more advanced maths. If your sin, cos or tan answer looks wrong, check whether you are in DEG or RAD mode.
Keyboard
You can also type on your keyboard: the number keys and + − * / work, Enter gives the answer, and Backspace deletes the last character. On a phone or tablet, tap the on-screen buttons.
How to use the tools
Every tool page works the same way: enter your numbers in the boxes, click the button, and read the answer with the steps shown underneath. The steps show the working, so you can learn the method as well as the answer. Each tool page also has an explanation, a formula, a worked example and FAQs below the tool.
Tips for homework
- Try the question yourself first, then use the tool to check your answer.
- Read the steps: they show the working your teacher wants to see.
- Use the worked example on each tool page to learn the method.
- Test yourself with the quizzes on the Quizzes page.
- If an answer looks wrong, check your units and whether you are in DEG or RAD mode.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is CalcSolver free?
Yes, every calculator on CalcSolver is free, with no sign-up and no app to install.
Does it work on a phone or school Chromebook?
Yes, CalcSolver works in any browser on phones, tablets, Chromebooks and computers.
Why is my sin answer wrong?
Check the DEG/RAD setting. School work uses degrees: sin(30°) = 0.5. If the calculator is in RAD mode, sin(30) gives a different answer.
