Exponent Calculator
Find a power, and a square root or nth root.
What is an exponent calculator?
An exponent calculator raises a number to a power — for example, 2 to the power of 10. It also finds roots: the square root or any nth root of a number. Enter the base and the power, and it works out the answer instantly.
How to use the exponent calculator
For a power, enter the base and the power, then click Calculate Power. For a root, enter the number and the root (2 for a square root), then click Calculate Root.
Formula
Power: base^power means the base multiplied by itself power times. Root: the nth root of a number is that number raised to 1/n — for example, √144 = 144^(1/2) = 12.
Example
2^10 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 1024. And √144 = 12, because 12 × 12 = 144.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is 2 to the power of 10?
2^10 = 1024. Try it on the calculator above.
What is the square root of 144?
√144 = 12, because 12 × 12 = 144. Use the root section above with Root of 144 and Root n = 2.
What does 2^-1 equal?
2^-1 = 0.5. A negative power means one divided by the positive power: 2^-1 = 1/2.
